When you use a computer at LANSCE, you are a link in our cyber security chain. Threats to cyber security come from two directions:

  • Outsiders who break into computer systems or introduce harmful code, and
  • Insiders who violate cyber-security rules.

Currently, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) supports the following networks:

  1. Visitor (gray) network- Provides an outgoing connection to the Internet so authorized visitors (Users) may check email, etc.

  2. Green network- Provides information to the world. No sensitive or classified data is allowed on the green network. The external User web site is located on the green network.

  3. Yellow network- LANL’s protected, unclassified network where most internal work is processed. The LANSCE User web site is located on the yellow network.

  4. Red network- Limited to processing classified information.
